Remarks
1.Most courses are taught in Chinese. Most textbooks are in Chinese. Most instructors
communicate well in English.
2. FJCU Center of Chinese Language and Culture offers fee-paying Mandarin learning
courses. The International Student Center offers 6-hour free evening Mandarin courses
per week. International students will be assigned buddies to help them boost their
Mandarin proficiency.
3.The Department of Journalism & Communication Studies cultivates talents who can
explore key issues, collect credible information, tell touching stories, and develop
innovative media. The curriculum is based on a mixture of humanities and technology,
focusing on topic selection and planning, interviewing and research, writing and
storytelling, editing and exhibiting, and innovation and entrepreneurship, helping students
develop professional journalism skills and realize their potential for cross-departmental
development. About half of our graduates have made a career in journalism and
academia, and half pursued careers in politics, business, technology, education, public
welfare, and public relations. Our faculty includes Ph.D.’s and prominent media
professionals from the U.S., U.K., Japan, and Taiwan, and the instructional media
includes newspapers, websites, television, and radio; students are able to take minors and
dual degrees from all 13 FJCU colleges, and can join exchange programs at over 440
sister universities all over the globe.
